I have to be honest here, I have not played the games myself, but that isn't any obstacle for my love for them. I've watched several let's plays, read about the theories and all kinds of easter eggs and it's very interesting. I absolutely love the story, the characters and the mysteriousness, and even though I'm not interested in playing it, I'm still very into it.
(The reason I don't want to play myself is mainly the gameplay.. I'm not so much into staying still all the time and clicking stuff)
As said by the creator of the game, the genders of the animatronics are either male or female, but he never stated, which is what. My Bonnie, Freddy and Mangle are male and Chica is female. I like to think of Mangle as a drag queen of some sorts
And Bonnie is just a feminine guy 
Who may crossdress and all that.. but they're not as much of a queen as Mangle =3=
But I like them all regardless of what gender they are. It doesn't really matter. They're robots after all. Robots possessed by little kiddies' souls :I
