From .flow, a Yume Nikki fan game by lol :> I actually like this game more than the original YN, because it's much creepier and darker with the bloody hospitals, disturbing school, prison and all 
I've been searching for peoples thoughts about what the story behind it could be.. Now here's what I've began to think:
Sabitsuki is actually a genetic experiment (maybe created by Oreko?), that got ill, and the kaibutsu are some other, failed experiments, that turned out to be aggressive monsters (They could also have been ordinary healthy experiments, that got jealous of Sabi, and then started acting violently). Sabitsuki escaped, and was taken into custody, and treated in hospital later, and the apartment she lives in is her current home. She was always kept as a weird individual, thus bullied in school and looked strangely at.
Now I think of Rust as an alter ego, that is dangerous and violent. Sabi doesn't remember the times, Rust was present, so she doesn't understand, why people keep away from her/are mean to her. Could be, that Sabi isn't leaving her room, because she was forbidden to do so, because she had been violent towards people outside while being Rust, so while she's in her room she tries to clear her mind and to understand, what has happened, who she is, etc. and the empty box events are only possible with Rust, because they're its memories. Rust itself could also be the disease Sabitsuki has, and was infected by the kaibutsu, and in the true ending the red demons also describe the disease, trying to make Rust take over all of her being.
I heard about the experiment theory from somewhere else, so I didn't originally think all of it myself, but as far I like it the most :>

I really like the picture, and the theory is also very good. While I don´t think it´s a genetic experiment, but rather some sort of disease, like blood cancer (what is it called?), and since the flow is basically her imagination, the red demons just symbolise the sickness. And in the end, she has either:
died because of the chainsaw
died because of her disease
been put into a coma and is dreaming once more
survived and got artificial legs, and is now leaving all this behind
I think I like the last one the most.
